Our Philosophy

Like any great goalie school or hockey school, our mission goes far beyond teaching the fundamentals of the game. Our primary focus is to support goaltenders and players in developing their skills, elevating their performance, and unlocking their full potential, both on and off the ice. We believe that hockey is more than a sport; it’s a powerful tool for building character, discipline, confidence, and resilience. Through structured training, mentorship, and a supportive environment, we aim to shape not only strong athletes but also well-rounded individuals who carry the lessons they learn here into every aspect of their lives. At the heart of our program is a deep commitment to influencing lives through hockey, one player at a time.

We like to go above and beyond by teaching the deeper elements of the game:

  •  Mental fitness

  •  Vision training

  •  Process development

  •  Nutritional habits

  •  How to evaluate and think the game differently.

There is no one way to play hockey. Really, there is no one way to do anything in life. Every goaltender, every player, every athlete, has their own story, their own preferences and their own experiences that all factor into becoming the best that they can be. We pride ourselves on developing that technique and creating a process, and the confidence, needed to execute that technique consistently.

Meet the Team

Steve Briere

Owner/Head of Goaltending Instruction

Steve’s passion for goaltending ignited at just eight years old. Born in Montreal and raised in Winnipeg, he grew up in the heart of Canadian hockey, playing minor hockey until leaving home at only 15 to pursue his junior career. His journey took him first to Trail, British Columbia, then to the USHL with the Omaha Lancers and Sioux City Musketeers, before earning a full scholarship to the University of Alabama–Huntsville (UAH).

At UAH, Steve earned his business degree and captured a National Championship. His success led him to the professional ranks, where he signed with the Boston Bruins organization and played in the AHL with the Providence Bruins. He went on to enjoy a nine-year pro career, spending several seasons in the UK and Fife, Scotland, where he met his wife and began his family.

When Steve retired from professional play, he returned to UAH to pursue his MBA while serving as an assistant coach, mentoring the team’s goaltenders, including NHL standout Cam Talbot. From there, his coaching path continued through the USHL (Omaha, Fargo, Des Moines), the NAHL (Topeka, Johnstown), and the WSHL (Casper).

Throughout his career, Steve has had the privilege of learning from some of the most respected goalie coaches in the sport, such as Mitch Korn, Jacques Caron, and the late Wayne Thomas—relationships he still holds close today.

Steve spent seven seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, working with elite NHL goaltenders including Frederik Andersen, Jack Campbell, James Reimer, and two-time Stanley Cup Champion Curtis McElhinney. Most recently, he coached with the Seattle Kraken for three seasons, helping produce multiple top-10 NHL goaltenders.

Today, Steve resides in Colorado with his family and serves as the CEO of Colorado Extreme Hockey Academy, continuing his life’s mission of developing dedicated, confident, and high-performing goaltenders.

NCAA Division I Forward – University of Nebraska Omaha

Cam was born in Scotland but moved to North America at just ten months old. By two years old he was already on skates, beginning a journey that would take him across the hockey world. He first learned to play in Huntsville, Alabama, skating with the local Chargers program until age seven, when his family moved to Minnesota. There, he spent two seasons with the Burnsville Blaze and one with the Stillwater Ponies before life brought another big transition.

Cam’s next stop was Toronto, where he spent seven years developing in one of the most competitive youth hockey leagues in the world. The GTHL. His game thrived in the high-caliber environment, leading to him being drafted in both the OHL and USHL.

In 2020, when COVID-19 shut down hockey throughout Canada, Cam received an opportunity to join the Nashville Jr. Predators. He made the most of it, enjoying a standout season filled with growth and success. The following year, in 2021, he earned the chance to represent Team USA at the prestigious Five Nations Tournament in Visp, Switzerland, where the group claimed first place.

Cam returned to Minnesota for the 2021–22 school year, eager to experience true Minnesota high school hockey. He quickly became an impact player, finishing as his team’s top scorer. After his junior year of high school, Cam chose to begin his junior hockey journey with the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska, the team that had drafted him several years earlier.

Fast forward three years, and Cam has now taken the next step in his hockey and academic career. He is currently a freshman at the University of Nebraska Omaha, competing at the NCAA Division I level while pursuing a degree in business. Determined, passionate, and driven, Cam continues to build toward a future in the sport he has loved since he first stepped on the ice.

What is the Mentorship Program and who is it for?

Welcome to our Year-Round Mentorship Program, where we are dedicated to supporting your journey and career path in hockey. From youth, to junior, to college, to Pro, our program offers tailored coaching and mentorship for both PLAYERS and GOALTENDERS, helping you to succeed and make your dreams in hockey become a reality.

The Year-Round Mentorship Program provides aspiring athletes with the essential tools, strategies and "business plan", to excel at every level of the game.

Work exclusively with 10 year, NHL Goalie Coach, Steve Briere!

We have collaborated with leading development experts to bring you the total development package: from training to personal promotion.

The key advantage with our mentorship program is that you can come to us for all of your training needs, rather than hiring out several coaches for individual needs.

For many athletes, in order to receive adequate training, it involves a rotation of coaches. One for on-ice training, one for off-ice training and then one to work on the mental side of the game, or for visual performance. It is our goal and mission to bring to you, all of these important training methods in one comprehensive program which is outlined below.

The Year-Round Mentorship program enables both PLAYERS and GOALTENDERS to take advantage of several types of skill development in one place. Your in-season business plan will include:

  • On-Ice Drills & Training for everyday use

  • Off-Ice Stretching Manual and Exercises

  • Visual Performance Exercises

  • Mental Strength & Mindset Reading, Activities, and Exercises

  • Video Analysis

  • Help with marketing yourself to Junior, College, and Professional coaches and scouts

  • Texts, calls and video calls with Coach Briere

We will teach you the ins and outs of the Junior & College recruiting process and how you can market yourself & build relationships with coaches and scouts.

Many players and goaltenders have the hopes and dreams of playing at the highest levels, but few can actually make it happen. The ones who do, receive help and training from a village of supporters. They have coaches, advisors, mentors, friends, and family helping them along. We want to be all of that for you.

Join us and take the next step towards reaching your highest potential in hockey!

TESTIMONIALS

"Working with steve has been nothing short of incredible. From the development on the ice, to my mental game, he's helped me in ways I could have never imagined.

Not only has my on ice game developed due to Steve's help, but his mentorship program has made me a better person, and taught me life lessons I will use as I continue to grow and learn.

Thanks steve! I wouldn't even be close to the position I'm in without your support and guidance over the years. Thank you very much." - Jason Schaubel - Kitchener Rangers, OHL

"I first met Steve when I was 14 at one of his hockey camps in Bemidji, Minnesota. I remember passing him in the hallway, and he greeted me with an upbeat "Hi!" As a classic teenager, I replied with a monotone "hey." The next day, he called me out and told me that whenever someone says hi, I should respond with energy and a smile. That simple moment became the first of many valuable lessons I learned from Steve. Over my Junior career, I've had the pleasure of working with and his mentorship program. My path in junior hockey was not easy and I never realized how important it was to have someone by my side. I was able to call Steve if I had a bad game, great game, or if I just wanted to chat! Steve and I were able to go over clips of my game and analyze what I needed to work on. Most importantly, I relied on him to have open conversations about the mental side of the game. In juniors, I went through the adversity of being traded and cut from teams. Steve helped me stay on track.

The summer leading up to my last year of juniors, Steve let me stay at his house in Stillwater, Minnesota. We worked on and off the ice with his son Cam and another goalie Nolan whom I became close with. This helped me tee up for my last year of juniors and my last chance to get a D1 commitment. When I had found out I got released from the NAHL and had nowhere to go, Steve reached out to a team in Steinbach, Canada. As a result, I helped lead the Steinbach Pistons to winning the MJHL and got a D1 commitment to play at the Air Force Academy. While these are all great results, through Steve's mentorship I have learned to trust the process. Which allows me to become the best goalie I can be and most importantly the best human I can be! I continue to use this same mindset throughout my college career. There is no question without Steve I would not be where I am today." - Dom Wasik - Air Force Academy, NCAA
